Art Visuals & Poetry was founded in 2010 as an non-profit artist association by Sigrun Höllrigl.

From 2010 until 2012 the focus was on literature live performances close to theater and visual arts. Sigrun Höllrigl co-operated with 4youreye projectionArt, other visual artists such as starky and niemalshaltestelle, various young writers and with the theater man Hubsi Kramar. The experimental performances were close to performing arts and included live generated visuals on screens. All events were organized by Sigrun Höllrigl and 4youreye.

The first Art Visuals & Poetry Festival took place October 17, 2011 at dreiraum-Anatomietheater, 1030 Vienna. Summer serie of live visualized literature performances by 4youreye and niemalshaltestelle on three 6 meter screens in a industry building & art space called media opera

In 2013 the first Art Visuals & Poetry Film Festival in Vienna was set up Oct.7-8, at the theater Garage X, 1010 Vienna. Hubert Sielecki joined the project as the film co-curator of Art Visuals & Poetry.

In 2014 the second Art Visuals & Poetry Film Festival was realized at the cinema Schikaneder, Nov 5-6, 1040 Vienna. It was the begin of the Vienna poetry film competions. Festival poet was Georg Trakl.

In 2015 the third Art Visuals & Poetry Film Festival was realized Dezember 5-6, 2017. The festival changed from off spaces in Vienna to the renowned Metro Kinokulturhaus 1010 Vienna. The festival rhythm changed from annual to bi-annual. Co-operations ON TOUR with Künstlerhaus Wien, Literaturhaus Salzburg, Theater am Saumarkt, Feldkirch.

In 2017 the fourth Art Visuals & Poetry Film Festival Vienna took place Nov 4-6, 2017 at Metro Kinokulturhaus, 1010 Vienna. The Vienna Poetry Film Festival became the second-largest poetry film festival world-wide showing 82 films on three days. 36 international film makers joined the festival. Subsequent ON TOUR screening Dec 12, 2017 Künstlerhaus Vienna. Festival poet was Rainer Maria Rilke.

In 2019 the fifth edition of the Art Visuals & Poetry Film Festival Vienna took place from Nov 29 to Dec,1, 2019.
The Vienna Poetry Film Festival ist still the second largest poetry film festival world-wide. Festival poet was the comtemporary Viennese poet and composer Sophie Reyer. 101 films were shown within 3 days.
