Poetry film competition on Georg Trakl

 

In 2014 an international competition was announced on the occasion of the Art Visuals & Poetry Film Festival. It was the first competition the cultural association announced in its history. Selected was the Kaspar Hauser Lied by Georg Trakl. The suprise about the international interest and the quality of the submitted films was great!
Georg Trakl (1887-1914) is considered one of the few representatives of Expressionism in Austria. The emotionally determining style of Expressionism has become alien to us today, as irony and ironic distance characterize contemporary everyday language. Even though one can get very close to the poet by listening to the poem 13 times in a row during the film screening on location. The film adaptations were so different, that the text can be experienced a new way each time. The clue to deeper perception lies precisely the repetition of the poems during the screening. 
The Trakl competition was shown in the following sequence during the second Art Visuals & Poetry Film Festival 2014 at the Schikaneder Kino in Vienna and repeated at the Vienna Stadtkino Künstlerhaus as part of Art Visuals & Poetry ON TOURS.

In the course of the competition the poem was professionally read by Christian Reiner in the studio and translated. The non-commercial copy rights of the recording and translation were made available free of charge as part of the competition announcement.  It was obligatory to use the audio track with the "Kaspar Hauser Lied". However, the recording could be freely edited or remixed.
